Nepal Communist Party founder leader's birth centenary programme kicks off

Kathmandu, Oct 30: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' initiated the birth centenary programme dedicated to Nara Bahadur Karmacharya, one of the founder leaders of Nepal Communist Party by garlanding the late leader's statue at Kumbheshwar here today.

Maoist Centre vice-chairpersons Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Pampha Bhusal, general-secretary Dev Prasad Gurung, and Ram Narayan Bidari, among other leaders, were present on the occasion.

Acting Chairperson of the Nara Bahadur Karmacharya Memorial Foundation, Giriraj Mani Pokharel said the late leader's birth centenary programme has started with the Maoist Centre Chair garlanding Karmacharya's statue. He said the birth centenary programme would be marked throughout the year.

To mark the same occasion, the Foundation is organizing a symposium entitled '75 years of Nepali Communist Movement and Future Responsibility' at the Nepal Academy, Kamaladi today afternoon.

The party has also directed its district units across the country to mark leader Karmacharya's birth centenary by organizing various programmes throughout the year.

Born to mother Shree Kumari and father Chandra Bahadur on Kattik 14, 1981 BS at Jhapatol of Lalitpur, Nara Bahadur Karmacharya died in Kathmandu on July 24, 2013.

Late leader Pushpalal Shrestha was the coordinator of the party. The other founding members were Niranjan Govinda Baidhya and Narayan Bilas Joshi.

Karmacharya was involved in the popular movement to overthrow the Rana oligarchy since 2005 BS. He was elected the Mayor of Lalitpur Municipality in 2016 BS. Karmacharya was elected the central member of Nepal Communist Party in 2019 BS.
