Kathmandu- According to the Gregorian calendar, the new year AD 2025 has started from today.

It is believed that the AD year started after Jesus Christ was hanged. It is called the new year according to the Gregorian calendar because Pope Gregorian replaced the Julian calendar with the current calendar.

Julian calendar was introduced by ruler Julius Caesar. Dr. Khilanath Bastakoti, a former administrator and astrologer, says that due to the controversy, this calendar was introduced by Russia only after 200 years.

Despite the controversy, this samvat was introduced in various places during the colonial period, and now it is popularized worldwide. Even though this samvat is not in vogue in Nepal, it is used by foreign visitors.

Since a few years ago, AD Samvat has been celebrated in various places in Nepal. This Samvat is celebrated in the name of 'New Year's Eve' in Thamel, Buddh, Pokhara, Sauraha, Lumbini and other places of Kathmandu which are crowded with foreign tourists.

Special activity has been seen in Thamel, Buddh, Swayambhu, Naya Sadak and other areas of the capital since Tuesday evening.
